Damien McCarthy Wins

Steeltech Sheds Imokilly Motor Club Rally Sprint.

A large number of spectators descended on the Corrin event centre near Rathcormac on Sunday 19th of September last to see Timoleagues Damien McCarthy take over all victory on the inaugural Imokilly Motor Club rally sprint sponsored by Steeltech Sheds. Second overall went to Fergus O'Meara on board a Ford Escort Mk II, while third place went to Carrigalines Brian O'Mahony driving a Metro 6R4.

A marvellous entry of 91 cars took to the start line to battle it out over the course of the 2km circuit which would have to be tackled 3 times over the course of the day. Fastest out of the blocks on timed run 1 was David James on board his Mitsubishi Evo who would stop the clocks on a very good time of 01:43:5 followed closely in second by Damien McCarthy in his very nimble Honda Civic on 01:44:9 while Brian O'Mahony was only a fraction of a second behind in third on a time of 01:45:5.

On timed run 2, rolls would be changed as Fergus O'Meara in his brand newly built MK II Escort punched in a fine time of 01:43:5 followed once again by Damien on 01:43:8 and Youghal's Jason Ryan in his powerful Starlet on 01:44:2. After some heavy afternoon showers of rain, the crews once again took to the start line to give it one last attack on timed run three to see if they could improve there times and move up the leader board. This time however, it was Brian O'Mahony who would go quickest on 01:45:4 in the Metro 6R4 followed once again by Damien McCarthy on 01:45:6 and the hugely powerful Starlet of Dungarvans Paul Mulcahy on 01:46:9. Over the course of the day, we were treated to some wonderful driving skills and entertainment across all the classes with only a handful of seconds separating each crew from one another when the final times were tallied.

Class winners on the day included Class 1: Brian O'Keeffe fresh from his wonderful victory on the recent Cork City Rally Sprint Class 2: Colm Noonan Class 3: Jason Ryan Class 3A : Tom Sheehan Class 4: Frank Kelly Class 5: David Beamish Class 6: David Dunne Class 8: Paul Mulcahy Class 9: Colin Hynes.
We at the IMC would especially like to thank Frank Kelly, Maurice Moffett, Paul Mulcahy, Brian Lawlor and Damien McCarthy for giving up there co-driver seats for the day as part of our fundraising draw and for taking the five lucky winners on the spin of there lives and an experience I am sure they will never forget.

We would also like to sincerely thank everyone who took part in our event and helped out over the weekend especially our Marshall's, time keepers, medical personnel and everyone else who gave up there time voluntarily in making this a truly successful occasion.

Finally for now a special word of thanks to Steeltech Sheds of Little Island for sponsoring our event and to our COC Derek Power who put in Trojan work over the last number of months in getting this event over the finish line.
Roll on 2011.
