The AGM of the Imokilly Motor Club took place recently and the above were elected to various positions for the year . 2010 was a very successful year for the club and we are hoping for more of the same for the coming year. Once again we will be organising 3 motorsport events these being a 2 day grass surface Autocross which will be a counting round of the National Autocross Championship, an autotest and biggest of all will be our Rallysprint which was a wonderful success last year. Remember we are always looking for new members so for any of you out there who have a keen interest in motorsport feel free to come along to any one of our meetings which are usually held on the second Monday of each month in the Thatch bar in Ladysbridge commencing at 9 o clock. Paul Mulcahy and Karl Baumann Imokilly Motorclub Members win Halloween Rally

Overall Rally winners were Paul Mulcahy and Karl Baumann the Imokilly Motor Club Members putting in stunning times in the wildly powerfull Toyota Starlet.

Over the Halloween weekend, Carrick on Suir Motor Club wrote a new page in their
52 year History by hosting the inaugural running of the Halloween Historic Stages
Rally. The Modified section was where Dungarvan crew of Paul Mulcahy and Karl Baumann set the pace but were pushed early on by Viv Hamill until his exit on stage four when he when off in his Escort. In the closing stages there was a fight for second place as Trevor Culbert overhauled Sam Smyth to take second on the finish ramp but the winners on the day were Paul and Karl in their newly built Orange Starlet

Damien McCarthy Wins

Steeltech Sheds Imokilly Motor Club Rally Sprint.

A large number of spectators descended on the Corrin event centre near Rathcormac on Sunday 19th of September last to see Timoleagues Damien McCarthy take over all victory on the inaugural Imokilly Motor Club rally sprint sponsored by Steeltech Sheds. Second overall went to Fergus O'Meara on board a Ford Escort Mk II, while third place went to Carrigalines Brian O'Mahony driving a Metro 6R4.

A marvellous entry of 91 cars took to the start line to battle it out over the course of the 2km circuit which would have to be tackled 3 times over the course of the day. Fastest out of the blocks on timed run 1 was David James on board his Mitsubishi Evo who would stop the clocks on a very good time of 01:43:5 followed closely in second by Damien McCarthy in his very nimble Honda Civic on 01:44:9 while Brian O'Mahony was only a fraction of a second behind in third on a time of 01:45:5.

On timed run 2, rolls would be changed as Fergus O'Meara in his brand newly built MK II Escort punched in a fine time of 01:43:5 followed once again by Damien on 01:43:8 and Youghal's Jason Ryan in his powerful Starlet on 01:44:2. After some heavy afternoon showers of rain, the crews once again took to the start line to give it one last attack on timed run three to see if they could improve there times and move up the leader board. This time however, it was Brian O'Mahony who would go quickest on 01:45:4 in the Metro 6R4 followed once again by Damien McCarthy on 01:45:6 and the hugely powerful Starlet of Dungarvans Paul Mulcahy on 01:46:9. Over the course of the day, we were treated to some wonderful driving skills and entertainment across all the classes with only a handful of seconds separating each crew from one another when the final times were tallied.

Class winners on the day included Class 1: Brian O'Keeffe fresh from his wonderful victory on the recent Cork City Rally Sprint Class 2: Colm Noonan Class 3: Jason Ryan Class 3A : Tom Sheehan Class 4: Frank Kelly Class 5: David Beamish Class 6: David Dunne Class 8: Paul Mulcahy Class 9: Colin Hynes.
We at the IMC would especially like to thank Frank Kelly, Maurice Moffett, Paul Mulcahy, Brian Lawlor and Damien McCarthy for giving up there co-driver seats for the day as part of our fundraising draw and for taking the five lucky winners on the spin of there lives and an experience I am sure they will never forget.

We would also like to sincerely thank everyone who took part in our event and helped out over the weekend especially our Marshall's, time keepers, medical personnel and everyone else who gave up there time voluntarily in making this a truly successful occasion.

Finally for now a special word of thanks to Steeltech Sheds of Little Island for sponsoring our event and to our COC Derek Power who put in Trojan work over the last number of months in getting this event over the finish line.
Roll on 2011.

Steeltechsheds.com Rallysprint on the 19th September in Rathcormac !!!!!!!!!

(Pic Brian O'Keeffe winner of the recent Cork Rally Sprint can he win Sunday.)

Its all GO for the Steeltechsheds.com Rallysprint on the 19th September that's next Sunday. Clerk of the Coarse Derek Power along with his committee from the Imokilly Motor Club (IMC) have pulled out all the stops in securing a top class entry for this event.Derek said in these tough times to secure such an entry is fantastic the club put the work in and now we must make sure all things run smooth on the day.

The 2km coarse is sure to test drivers to the limit and there is plenty of room for some really sideways action on the smooth tarmac in the confines of the Corrin Event Centre. There is a huge spectator area where it will be easy to see much of the action. It will be a family friendly day as the action will be non stop with over 80 cars on track 3 times during the day.

This is the IMCs first rally sprint and they have assembled an entry that would do justice to any multi stage rally in Ireland if its rear wheel drive sideways action one is looking for some of the fastest clubmen in Irish Rallying are ready to do battle on this event.

The big battle should be between the two who battled for the win at the Cork Rally Sprint a few weeks ago that time Brian O Keeffe took the win over Brian O Mahoney this time O Mahoney brings out the Clio and it may suit the tight twisty coarse compared to the GpN turbo car of O Keeffe.Irish GpN expert Alan Ring takes a BMW for a spin that could be interesting and the battle of the Starlets should be wild between Paul Mulcahy and Maurice Moffett fresh from a fine 3rd overall on the Wexford rally. If you are a fan of the MK 2 Escort well some of the best are here with the likes of Frank Kelly ,Trevor Mulligan and Brian Lawlor these lads always give 100%.If its high revs then the likes of Damien McCarthy and Jason Ryan are sure to Impress these lads ring the neck out of their Civics and will be close to the front come days end an exciting entry comes in the form of Mike Deane in a 600hp Nissan Skyline (Drift Car).

Also in the bunch are the likes of east Corks Allen Treacy and Mark Dolphin to name but a few yes its going to be a great days motorsport and all happening there in front of the spectator for the day.The action kicks off at around 11.15 with the first of 3 runs.

The club has provided a car park in a field beside the venue and this must be used as the Gardai have said there is no parking on the road and any one doing so will be towed you have been warned !!!!!!!!!!

Fresh from an Excellent 3rd overall on the Wexford Rally Maurice Moffett.

IMC Motor Club getting ready for the Steeltechsheds.com Rallysprint.

Entries are steadily coming in for the Steeltechsheds.com Rallysprint on the 19th September there's two weeks to go to the event and things are looking good. The club reports great interest in the event and hope to start a quality field for their first ever Rally Sprint organised by the Imokilly Motor Club.

Clerk of the Course Derek Power said we have been working on this with a while and I have a great team with me the interest is there from the competitors so it should be a good event. The event already has some very quick clubmen in fact some of the quickest in the country.

Just some of the competitors include Brian Lawlor, Frank Kelly in their Escorts and the likes of Maurice Moffett and Damien McCarthy. The local interest will feature club members like Allen Treacy (Corolla) Mark Dolphin (Escort) and Brian O Keeffe fresh from his win in the Cork Rally Sprint with his Gp N Subaru.

These are just some of the competitors that will make for an exciting days motorsport at the Corrin Event Centre Rathcormac near Fermoy.

Just to mention that An Garda Síochána have said there is absolutely no parking on the road any where near the event centre so the IMC motor club have secured the use of a field beside the centre for parking please use it or you will be towed !!!!!!!!!!!

If u intend to do the event there is still time to enter and the entry fee
represents excellent value for money contact the event secretary Tom O Regan. 086 2599896 begin_of_the_skype_highlighting              086 2599896      end_of_the_skype_highlighting

For spectators the venue offers great vantage points to see plenty of action . Full report on who is entered for this event and all other details in next weeks report. Keep up to date with all the news on the club website

Strong entry on West Cork Rally from IMC crews

Clonakilty in West Cork was the centre of attention on the weekend of March 20-21 last as a large group of Competitors from the IMC headed to the town to compete in the West Cork Rally.

Among those of the 151 crews who took to the start line on the Saturday morning to transverse the days 8 stages were the twincam brigade of Allan Treacy/Bob Fitzgerald,Willie Walsh/Carol O Keeffe,James Cunningham/Joe Fitzgibbon,John Sinclair/Finbar Fogarty,Shane Moriarty/Anthony O Donovan and Micheal Murphy/Pat Cashman. The Ford Escort crews were equeally well represented including Mark Dolphin/Pat O Mahony,Wesley Daly/Micheal Walsh,Paul Scannell/Mossy Griffin,Emmet Cronin/Paul O Donovan and Willie Kenneally/ Micheal O Donovan. Midletons Daragh O Riordan was debuting the ex Melvyn Evans Subaru Impreza WRC for the first time and Brian O Keeffe/Derek Power were also out contesting the showroom category also is a Subaru.

As the days action progressed over the stage locations at Ballinascarthy,Clogagh,Ring and Dunworley unfortunately mechanical failure would put an end to the hopes of many of the above crews except for Daragh O Riordan,Willie Kenneally,Brian O Keeffe and Micheal Murphy who at the end of leg one were all having a really good run.

After some overnight rain on Saturday night the sun shone brightly once again as the crews left Parc Ferme on Sunday Morning to tackle the stages in Rossmore, Sams cross,Ardfield, and Hayes Cross. Many of the lads who had to retire on Saturday were back out on Sunday after some overnight work to their cars to compete in the Sunday run.

After the days final stage at Hayes Cross and as all the times were tallied fourth overall and first in class went to Darragh O Riordan who made the perfect start to his first spin in a world rally car.In group N a very consistent drive over the 2 days netted Brian O Keeffe and club secretary Derek Power eleventh overall and the class win(well done boys). Willie Kenneally and Micheal O Donovan took home the trophy for third in class and 27 overall and Micheal Murphy and Pat Cashman finished 52 overall in the ultra competitive class 11.
Well done to all who competed over the weekend and to Cork Motor Club led by COC Darren Mc Carthy for putting on an excellent event.

There is a bucket load of pics on facebook so go check them out !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

2010 IMC report from Carrick on Suir for round 2 of the National Forest Rally Championship

On March 7 last all roads led to Carrick on Suir for round 2 of the National Forest Rally Championship. As in Mitchelstown a few weeks previous the sun shone brightly as the crews made their way to Ahenny for the first of the days 6 stages

. Fastest out of the blocks of the IMC crews were Ray Benskin/Peadar Walsh followed closely by his brother Sean W.and Joe Fitzgibbon all in Ford Escorts. After that it was off to Anner before the crews tackled the 20.4 kms of Gurteen and then into service to the Millriver business park in Carrick.By this stage in the rally Sean and Joe had opened up a gap on the opposition and over the repeat loop of stages extended their advantage and when the final stage times were tallied in the evening they finished a very impressive 15th overall and second in class 4.

Unfortunately mechanical problems put an end to Rays and Peadars fine run on the second run over Gurteen. Owing to the cancellation of the next round in Birr it will be the Moonraker in May before we will see the forestry championship resume and the many class battles between the boys from the IMC.The Moonraker is the local forest event with stages in Clashmore and the Vee.

2010 Sean Conlon Memorial Forestry Rally

The woods around Mitchelstown were the centre of attention on Sunday February 14 last as many club members dusted off their rally cars and headed to compete in round one of the Petrosystems sponsored National forestry rally championship.

Clear blue skies and glorious sunshine greeted us as we took to the start line in Kilcoran and stayed with us until we had transversed the other stage locations in Ballydrehid, Cumbaun, and Kilworth over the course of the day. When the final times were tallied many club members took home those coveted pieces of crystal including Ollie Williams/Micheal Walsh who won class five and Sean W Benskin who had Joe Fitzgibbon calling the notes finishing third in class four.

Unfortunately mechanical failure put an end to many others hopes of a podium finish but with round two just down the road in Carrick on Suir next weekend another mighty battle is envisaged between the boys from the IMC.

There are a number of factors which led to this decision, including the

We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.
