Rallysprint Cancellation - Official Press Release

It is with deep regret that Imokilly Motor Club have cancelled our Rallysprint on Sunday next November 15th. At close of entries at 5pm today, the entries secretary had received insufficient entries to allow the event to go ahead. As a small club with an even smaller bank balance the club are unable to take the loss which would be incurred by running the event. The entries secretary is currently contacting all received entries. At this stage we would like express our thanks to everyone who helped out in any way in the organisation of the event up to now especially all the competitors who did put in entries.

Yours in Motorsport.

I.M.C. Hillclimb, September 20th - Event Preview

By: Club P.R.O. Joe Fitzgibbon.
Over the past number of months we've organised and ran events on the loose and also on the grass but for the first time this year we are heading for the tarmac. On Sunday, September 20th, we are holding a hillclimb, the venue once again being Annistown on the Killeagh - Mogeely road, known locally as Gould's hill.
The format for the event is as follows:-Sign on 8-10am with mechanical scrutiny in a yard at the bottom of the hill. Drivers briefing 10.15am with the first of the timed runs scheduled for 11.00. Servicing on the day will be on a closed section of the Mogeely - Killeagh road starting at the junction of Glenane to the junction of Garranjames. This section of road will be closed from 10:00am until 6:00pm and diversions will be in place.
As hillclimb events go, you will have to travel a long way to match this hill for its 1.7km of smooth, fast flowing tarmac. Although the event is not a round of the hillclimb championship we are hoping that a lot of the championship regulars will come out once again as they did last year and supported us on the day, not to mention all the local drivers who will be battling it out for supremacy over the course of the day.
A special spectator designated area will be in operation for anyone coming to view the action and this can only be accessed via the stage finish which will be arrowed from Dangan Cross on the Dungourney - Mount Uniacke road. Please note they will be strictly no spectator access from the start on the Killeagh - Mogeely Road.
This event was a wonderful success last year and we are hoping for the same this time around. So there you have it lads, for anyone of you out there who have a rally car or a single seater start tweaking your engines and see which one of you will come away with the title of being the fastest man or woman up the hill and take away the coveted piece of crystal which was won last year by Midleton's Darragh O'Riordan in his Opel Corsa S1600.
Further information on this event can be had by contacting COC Darren McCarthy on 087/2738387 or entries secretary Donie McCarthy on 086/1721362.
Regulations can be downloaded from our website homepage.
Hope to see you all at the bottom of the hill on the 20th, till then keep the revs up

Imokilly Motor Club Grass Surface Autocross Review

By: Joe Fitzgibbon, IMC P.R.O.
On Saturday and Sunday last June 13th &14th, all roads led to Ballymacoda for our second event of the year - a grass surface autocross. As round 7 and 8 of the National Autocross Championship, a real quality entry was envisaged across all the classes and so we were not disappointed as a very respectable 23 competitors took to the start line on the Saturday and 26 on Sunday.

Glorious sunshine greeted the crews on their arrival to the field on Saturday After scrutiny had been completed, each competitor got a practice run followed by 3 timed runs.
Fastest out of the blocks on the first timed run was Christopher Culleton who stopped the clocks on a time of 01:27:36 followed closely by Mikey O'Connor on 01:30:55 both in specials.
In the saloon category, Ger Brennan pulled out all the stops in his very nimble Ford Fiesta to claim the fastest saloon award on day one with a time of 01:35:69.
Of the IMC competitors, Wesley Daly set the benchmark for the rest clocking up a very respectable time of 01:43:84 on timed run one followed by Emmet Cronin at 01:49:87, Bobby Benskin at 01:50:83 and Richard O'Brien on 02:00:95 all in MK2 Escorts followed by John Dolphin in his special with a time of 02:20:93.

The second timed run saw Chris Culleton once again having the upper hand as he punched in a time of 01:28:30 and Mikey O'Connor a fraction of a second off on 01:29:60. On the home front, John Dolphin really got in to his stride and crossed the finish line with a great time of 01:37:92. This run saw most of the rest of the field improve their times as the track started to churn up more grip.
After a short break, all the competitors entered the field of battle once again for timed run three. This time however, roles would be reversed as Mikey O'Connor powered his special to the fastest time of the day on 01:27:20 and so took the overall award on day one by a fraction of a second to Chris Culleton.

Class winners on Saturday were:
Class 1A Paul Collins
Class 2A Thomas O'Sullivan
Class 2B Wesley Daly
Class 3B Bobby Benskin
Class 4A Christopher Culleton
Class 4B Jimmy Lucey
Class 5A James Commins.
Best ladies award went to Niamh Driver.
John Dolphin took home best IMC members award.

On Sunday morning after some alterations to the course, the battle resumed once again. First the saloon cars took to the track and Ger Brennan resumed where he left off on Saturday and stopped the clocks on 01:40:28 which was once again enough for him to take home the best saloon award.
Christopher Culleton and Mikey O'Connor matched each other stride for stride both finishing on a identical time of 01:28:24 which would set up a really exciting finish to the event. Over the course of timed run two and three, the spectators were highly entertained from some really good racing right down through the classes but the best was yet to come.
Because of Mikey and Chris having identical times on run one, we had to head for a shoot out to determine the overall winner. Both men and machines headed for the start line and when the lights went green, both gave it their all over the course of the three laps but it was Chris Culleton who came out on top on a time of 01:28:56. Mikey O'Connor posted a very respectable time of 01:32:47.

Class winners on Sunday were:
Class 1A Dessie Brady.
Class 2A Thomas O'Sullivan.
Class 2B Owen Murphy.
Class 3A Ger Brennan.
Class 3B Wesley Daly.
Class 4A Chris Culleton.
Class 4B Jimmy Lucey.
Class 5A David Beamish.
Overall Event Winner: Mikey O'Connor

Imokilly Motor Club Loose Surface Autocross

On Sunday January 25th 2009 all roads led to Campbells pit in Clonakilty for our first event of the year which was a loose surface autocross. As round one of the Jerry Murphy Tyres sponsored Munster Autocross Championship a very good entry turned up on the day including a number of new visitors making their first appearance on the loose. The first time run of the day saw Ballincollig's Owen Murphy set the bench mark with a time of 2:37:81. The next closest challenger was teenager Ian Stanley also setting an impressive time of 2:38:36.

The second run saw most of the top runners improve their times including the lads from the Imokilly Motor club, John Dolphin in his special, Emmet Cronin in his Mark 2 and Mogeely's James Fitzgerald in his very nimble Corsa climbing the leader board. As the day progressed into time run 3, the battle between Stanley’s civic and Murphy’s Corolla intensified. But it was young Stanley who once again topped the time sheets with a staggering time of 2:32:50. Murphy stopped the clocks just under two seconds in arrears. With only seconds separated the leading runners, a no-holds barred conclusion was anticipated for the fourth and final run. However, with the surface scrubbed of loose gravel and standing water from the earlier runs and deteriorating weather conditions, this made the job at hand all the more difficult for all competitors.

When the final times were tallied, the overall win went to Ian Stanley in what is fast
becoming his favourite stomping ground. First overall special went to Midleton's John Dolphin. James Fitzgerald took 3rd in class 1 and Emmet Cronin took home the trophy for 2nd in class 2.
Well done to COC Anthony Cronin and all the lads from IMC who came out and helped on the day despite such bad weather.

For our next event, we will be heading to the nearer surroundings of Ballymacoda in early June but instead of gravel, we will be moving on to the grass which should also pose another challenge for all competitors.
